Online games

With a broadband connection, a sexy gaming rig and a shiny new local network, it’s hard to resist the siren song of online gaming.

I may have complained at some time or other of most online RPGs feeling ‘single-player’, and it occurs to me now that maybe to get around the alienation that comes with joining an existing game, it might be a good idea to get in as soon as possible so I’ll be able to actively influence the community.

And what better way to do that than to join the closed beta testing queue? I’ve signed up for three games: Ruin Online, an RPG/FPS; The Chronicles of Spellborn, a skill-based RPG where you actively participate in a battle (unlike World of Warcraft and the like, where you auto-target and watch while the computer fights for you); and Tabula Rasa, an RPG/Shooter produced by Richard Garriot, or Lord British of Ultima fame.

Speaking of Ultima, while I wait for the beta invitations to reach me I’ve regressed to good old dungeon bashing in the form of EUO, basically a clone of Ultima 4 and 5, but multiplayer.

I’m going to play on the Permadeath server for kicks. Join me, bristers!

That's all there is, there isn't any more.
