The changes that occur

An ancient blog post under Blog.

Say you have an axe, and over years of rough handling and little love, it gets damaged. Let’s say that you have to replace the handle, and then a month later you have to replace the axehead.

Is it still the same axe?

And let’s say that a piece of headgear which attaches to your computer can recreate the sensation of touch perfectly, to the point of feeling someone’s hand on yours from across the world — and I mean recreate, not simulate, because what does sensation ultimately boil down to but a series of electrical impulses in the brain?

If that was so, isn’t a person in the same room holding your hand equal, to all intents and purposes, to someone on the internet holding your hand?

That's all there is, there isn't any more.
