Back to writing something every day, because now I have a beautiful fountain pen and need a use for it, and I might be coming onto some inspiration even though everything else is at a standstill. It doesn’t have to be something awesome, just so long as it’s something.

While driving I like to watch the drivers in oncoming cars because no one else does. They don’t count on you doing it, and chances are they might be fixing their hair, or on the phone, or singing to themselves, but they invariably look straight ahead, like a plumb line toward the center of the Earth. Afraid of each other, of looking and finding that, Heaven forbid, there are other people here with their own agendas and who care not a whit about them.

But upon meeting a new person I try to guess at how the rest of their life will play out. Because our lives are so indissolubly linked, and our futures written in the hand of other people, that the mere absence or presence of someone is enough to alter a life irrecognisably.

Keep your enemies closer, you see.

That's all there is, there isn't any more.
