Your heart is a balloon

And after coming home from one of your few days out, and typing out a short message to thank your friend for the good time, you’ll feel it. Maybe you’ll burst into tears, or rub your face, or just stand there, but the revelation is always the same: there is something missing. Maybe there is someone missing.

It’s never bothered you before, but now you know that the heart is like a balloon, and every lonely sigh you heave into it fills it up until you either let some air out, or it explodes. Maybe all these years of being alone have finally turned on you, and all this time you dismissed it. Pushed it aside and bolstered your ego, maybe hardened your heart, and kept moving.

But while your heart may be so full that it may explode, it is a vacuous feeling, and we still call it empty if a room is full of nothing but air.

That's all there is, there isn't any more.
