Running Dark Messiah on Vista

An ancient blog post under Video Games.

Some people, like me, are getting a bug when starting Dark Messiah: Heroes of Might and Magic. The intro video plays, but then a black screen follows it, and not the menu or anything. The problem seems to be caused by the computer trying to run the game in a resolution the game does not like to output in. I have a fix here.

Right-click on the game’s shortcut and select Properties. On the resulting screen there is a Target text field. Go to the end of the text inside it, add a space, and then add -width 1024 -height 768 -refresh 75 -novid to the end.

All that does is tell the game to run a resolution of 1024x768 at a refresh rate of 75hz, and to skip the intro videos. You can, of course, change the numbers to something you prefer, or that you know is supported by your monitor. After you’ve set your graphics options in-game you should be able to remove this text from the Target field of your shortcut and run normally.

That's all there is, there isn't any more.
