Religious obsolesence

An ancient blog post under Writing.

Here’s a thought: if we lived in a utopia, would religion become unnecessary?

Many people practice a religion because of the rewards it promises upon death (namely Heaven). So it makes sense that religion would become weaker — or even become obsolete — if the world one is living in is so good that it may well be considered Heaven.

Or would religion simply create new rewards, like the privilege of being reincarnated into the same utopia after death?

That's all there is, there isn't any more.
