The first step

An ancient blog post under Pay Attention.

It’s as good a time as any to wake up, but he stays still. How could staying still make any difference, when no matter which direction he walks or runs or skips, the odds are overwhelming that the world would be rotating in an entirely different direction? That when he speaks a word, billions of others are also speaking, and his meaning lost in the noise. A noisy world that beats his brain down. Take, for instance, the roar of passing trucks on the artery outside his house, and if not for that, the bass from a nearby party, the yells of playing children, and if not for that, then the silence.

It’s the silence. He’s awake now, so he’d better get up.

This is part one of a short-short story series, called Pay Attention.

That's all there is, there isn't any more.
