The War Game Manual 8th Basic

Appendix 1: Measuring distances

Distances in War Game are measured with the help of a length of cord knotted at regular intervals. I knot my cord every 2½ inches, but any measurement can be used as long as the knots are an equal distance apart.

The distance between two knots in your cord is called a click, which is the standard unit of measurement used in War Game. If you start counting knots instead of spaces you'll always be one click short of what is required. It is recommended that your cord have at least seven knots.

You might find it handier to cut a few strips of card for common measurements like 1 and 3 clicks to save you the trouble of counting knots every time.
